What You’ll Need

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 thumb ginger, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup carrots, shredded
  • 2 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 1/2 cup green cabbage, shredded
  • 1 tbsp green onion, sliced
  • Stir Fry sauce

Equipment I Used

How to Make It

Steam the broccoli

Start by steaming the broccoli florets for about 5 minutes until they are bright green and tender but still slightly crisp. Once done, set the steamed broccoli aside. This step ensures the broccoli retains its vibrant color and texture when added to the stir fry later.

Cook the ground beef

In a large deep skillet, heat about 1-2 tbsp of oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, and sauté for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, until fragrant. Then, add the ground beef to the skillet. Use a wooden spoon to break the beef into crumbles, cooking it until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Season the beef with salt and black pepper to taste. Once cooked, remove the ground beef from the skillet and set it aside.

Sauté the vegetables

In the same skillet, add the shredded carrots, green cabbage, and sliced green onions. Sauté the vegetables for about 5-6 minutes over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until they become tender but still slightly crisp. This step will soften the vegetables while maintaining their texture and flavor.

Combine beef and broccoli with vegetables

Once the vegetables are cooked, return the ground beef to the skillet along with the steamed broccoli. Stir everything together, ensuring the beef and vegetables are well-mixed.

Add the stir fry sauce

Pour your favorite stir fry sauce over the beef and vegetable mixture, or try my homemade stir fry sauce recipe here. Stir to coat everything evenly. Let the stir fry cook for an additional 2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.

Serve

Once the stir fry is heated through and the sauce has been absorbed, remove from heat. Serve the Ground Beef Stir Fry on its own for a low-carb option, or pair it with rice or noodles for a more substantial meal.
