How to Make It

Marinate the Steak

Start by cutting the 6 oz steaks into bite-sized cubes for even cooking. In a mixing bowl, combine the steak cubes with 2 tbsp of soy sauce, 1.5 tbsp of oyster sauce, 1 tsp of black pepper, 0.5 tsp of baking soda, and 0.5 tsp of baking powder (optional). Mix well to ensure the steak is evenly coated with the marinade. Set aside and let the steak marinate while you prepare the other ingredients. The baking soda helps tenderize the meat, making it juicy and flavorful.

Cook the Steak

Heat a large pan or skillet over medium-high heat and drizzle in a small amount of oil. Once the oil is hot and shimmering, add the marinated steak cubes in a single layer. Pan-fry the steak for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until all sides are nicely browned. You can adjust the cooking time based on how well done you prefer your steak. Once cooked to your liking, remove the steak from the pan and set aside.

Sauté the Aromatics

In the same pan, add the white parts of the green onion and 1.5 tablespoons of minced garlic. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic. This step helps build a flavorful base for the fried rice.

Push the sautéed aromatics to one side of the pan, creating space for the eggs. Add the beaten eggs to the empty side of the pan and let them sit undisturbed for about 20 seconds until they start to set. Then, scramble the eggs gently until they are fully cooked but still soft.

Add the Rice and Soy Sauce

Increase the heat to high. Add 3 cups of cooked rice to the pan along with 2.5 tbsp of soy sauce. Sauté the rice, eggs, and aromatics together for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently to ensure the rice is evenly coated with the soy sauce and heated through. High heat helps to achieve a slightly crispy texture on the rice, adding extra flavor to the dish.

Finish the Fried Rice

Add 2 tbspof butter to the pan, allowing it to melt and coat the rice for a richer flavor. Then, add the cooked steak, the rest of the green onion (green parts), and continue to sauté on high heat for an additional 1-2 minutes. This final step incorporates all the ingredients, melding the flavors together and creating a cohesive dish.
