What You’ll Need

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter; salted
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cups light brown sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 1/3 flour
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Equipment I Used

How to Make It

Preheat the Oven

Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures the oven is at the right temperature when the cookies are ready to be baked, helping them bake evenly.

Cream the Butter and Sugars

In a large mixing bowl, add ½ cup of salted butter, ¼ cup of granulated sugar, and ¾ cup of light brown sugar. Using an electric mixer or stand mixer with a paddle attachment, cream the ingredients together on medium speed for about 3 minutes, until the mixture is light, fluffy, and well-combined. This step helps to create a soft and chewy texture in the cookies.

Add the Egg and Vanilla

Add 1 egg and 1 tsp of vanilla extract to the creamed mixture. Beat the ingredients on medium speed for about 2 minutes until fully incorporated and the batter is smooth. This helps to add moisture and flavor to the cookies.

Incorporate the Dry Ingredients

Gradually add 1⅓ cups of all-purpose flour, ½ tsp of sea salt, ½ tsp of baking soda, and 1 tsp of baking powder to the wet ingredients. Mix on low speed until the dough is fully combined, making sure not to overmix. The dough should be thick and hold its shape well, which will help the cookies maintain their structure during baking.

Fold in the Chocolate Chips

Gently fold in 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips using a spatula or spoon, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the dough. This ensures every cookie has a generous amount of chocolate in each bite.

Note: To mix things up a bit, I added ¾ cup of chocolate chips and ¼ cup of peanut butter chips for a delicious twist. Feel free to experiment with your favorite add-ins!

Prepare the Baking Sheet

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent the cookies from sticking and to ensure easy cleanup. Using a cookie scoop or two tablespoons, portion out about 2 tbsp of dough for each cookie and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart to allow for spreading.

Bake the Cookies

Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the cookies for about 9 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. The centers may still look slightly underbaked, but they will continue to set as they cool, resulting in a soft and chewy texture.

Cool the Cookies

Remove the cookies from the oven and let them rest on the baking sheet for 2 minutes to firm up slightly. Then, carefully transfer the parchment paper with the cookies to a cool surface and allow them to cool for an additional 3 minutes. This cooling process helps the cookies set and develop their final texture.
